Ever since Wii Fit launched and created the “workout game” genre, third party publishers have tried to get in on the calorie-burning action, with varying levels of success. The most recent workout title for the Wii, EA Sports Active, definitely added a lot of things I felt were missing from its predecessors, but still left room for improvement. Ubisoft’s Your Shape, launching this holiday season with a brand new camera peripheral for the Wii, could be the exercise game that finally gets everything right—especially since it includes a digital workout buddy to help your progress along. Today, Ubisoft announced that this “buddy” would actually be actress Jenny McCarthy, who will have an in-game avatar to help you get fit.

Personally, I’m more excited about the hands-free gameplay and the possible health and fitness benefits of Your Shape, but there’s certainly no detriment to having McCarthy on board. More importantly for Ubisoft, having a mainstream actress promoting the game will help get it in the public eye, and if more people decide to pick it up and exercise because of that, than it’s a job well done by the publisher.
