Ubisoft: Next Generation of Consoles Coming 2012

Third-Party Publisher is Getting Ready Now

by Sarah

You’ve got to hand it to third-party publisher Ubisoft; they have really got their finger on the pulse. After the shattering revelation last week that women like the Wii, this week Ubisoft has moved on to predicting the future. Their thoughts on the next generation of consoles? They’ll be here within the next three years, according to CEO Yves Guillemot.

Guillemot told GamesIndustry.biz that Ubi is already gearing up for the next next-gen, hiring staff and buying up technology. “We want to take advantage of a company that could bring more technology to us, or new brands. So we have now enough to help us to grow the company for not only next year but to get ready for the coming of the next generation consoles that are probably going to happen 2011, 2012.” That definitely goes against Sony’s ten-year plan for the PS3, and we haven’t really heard anything about a new Microsoft console. And, sure, the Wii is making boatloads of cash, but I’m guessing Nintendo will just stop producing them in the near future to make way for its next console.

Of course, this isn’t the first time people have made predictions about the next generation of consoles, and it probably won’t be the last. In fact, I’m going to make a few guesses of my own, the first being that when the next generation of consoles does finally launch, Ubisoft will have at least a dozen Imagine and Petz games ready to go. Also, Shaun White Snowboarding 2 will win Game of the Year awards from every major gaming outlet in the world. Man, making stuff up is fun!
