I’m pretty sure I wasn’t the only one surprised on Friday when news of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves including multiplayer modes started making the rounds on the internets. I was also pretty psyched, and naturally, I wanted to know more. Today, Sony and Naughty Dog have officially confirmed that Uncharted 2 will have multiplayer, as well as offering some more information.

Though Naughty Dog’s Evan Wells didn’t get too specific in his announcement on the PlayStation blog today, he did mention that Uncharted 2 would have “fully-realized multiplayer and co-op modes that would live up to our own high standards and do the Uncharted universe justice.” Although the game isn’t due out until the holiday season, there will be a multiplayer beta beginning June 3. As previously reported, gamers can get in through vouchers from another PS3 exclusive, inFamous, which goes on sale at the end of May.

This game was already a must-buy for me before news about the multiplayer dropped, so you can imagine that I’m even more excited now. From what I saw at New York Comic Con in February, Uncharted 2 is coming along very nicely, and I’m hoping to be able to sneak into the multiplayer beta and get a feel for it before the game comes out in October. Who else is looking forward to this?
