Update: PS3 Soul Calibur IV Installation Size Speculation "Significantly Overblown"

Namco Bandai Responds to the Rumors

by Sarah

Last night, I reported that Soul Calibur IV may come with a hefty 6.5 GB install for PS3 owners, along with two more gigs for save files. This was understandably upsetting for any PS3 owner, especially those with smaller hard drives. However, Namco has since responded to these allegations via Kotaku, stating that the rumors are unfounded:

"Those numbers are not accurate and are significantly overblown… The actual amount of space for the Soulcalibur IV install and save data file are inline with other games requiring this feature."

However, what Namco neglected to mention was the actual size of the installation (which I think we can just assume is happening), or how big the save files for the game would actually be. I thought 8.5 GB seemed a little much, but if recent releases like Metal Gear Solid 4, Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds, and Haze have been any indication, I would guess PS3 owners will need to free up around four to six gigs of space for Soul Calibur IV. I'm sure Sony fanboys will come up with a reason why these mandatory installs don't completely suck, but as someone with both systems, I'd definitely steer towards a 360 purchase for this one.
