USB Storage Support Coming to 360 in 2010
Hardware Update Will Make it Possible
by Sarah

Running out of space on your Xbox 360 hard drive? Wish you could take saved games from one system to another without carrying the HDD around? Well, you just may be in luck come spring. Joystiq has obtained documentation from Microsoft showing that USB support will become an option within the next few months. According to the docs, the reasoning comes from "increased market penetration of high-capacity, high throughput USB mass storage devices".
Here's how it will work, in a nutshell: up to two USB drives, both of which must be between 1GB and 16GB, can be used with your 360, and the system will do a compatibility check. Basically, each USB drive can act as a smaller version of your hard drive, if you so choose. Of course, with 32GB being the max USB space you can use at any given time, this option isn't exactly going to eliminate the need for an actual 360 HDD, but it should make it easier for gamers to store and transfer information without having to deal with one of those silly memory cards.
This hasn't been officially confirmed by Microsoft yet, though Joystiq stated that they confirmed it with two separate sources. If the update is indeed coming in the spring, that means we should hear more very soon. Are you excited by this new storage option? Do you think it will make life a little easier for 360 owners?

16GB is nice and all... but why not just support something a bit more... you know... our time? like the 1 to 2TB USB Drives, that are now pretty much cheaper than the meager 100gb that they used to propose us? :)

I was thinking the same thing, but at least we will be able to save game files without a memory card. I was actually looking into getting a memory card soon, but if this happens I won't have to.
