Valkyria Chronicles 2 on PSP Because PS3 Would Take Too Long
And Gamers Have No Patience
by Sarah

I loved Valkyria Chronicles. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. In addition to being one of the best games available for the PS3, it’s my personal favorite strategy RPG… ever. Because it sold so poorly in North America, there was a time when I thought we’d never see a sequel, but one is now in development—for the PSP. The move to handheld was a bit shocking, since one of the high points of VC was the beautiful, watercolor-esque graphics. So why did Sega decide to move the series to the less graphically impressive PSP? Because making another PS3 game would just take too damn long, according to a producer for the game.
Chief Producer Shuntaro Tanaka is aiming to expand the series to new audiences, and a three-year wait (the amount of time it would take to make a sequel on the PS3) would not be conducive to that goal. According to PSPHyper, Tanaka would like to see more Valkyria Chronicles on the PS3, but since next-gen games cost so much money to make, this would only be practical with an expanded fanbase. In other words, if you guys had actually bought this game, which is much more deserving of your money than a good percentage of stuff on store shelves, then a PS3 sequel might be in the works right now. Personally, I’ll take whatever I can get. VC2 on the PSP might not be as pretty, but as long as it retains the super addictive tactics and deep, emotional storyline, I’ll be happy.

I agree with you completely, Sarah! It's a shame that a very small percentage of American gamers took advantage of getting into Valkyria Chronicles and that we do, now, have to deal with a less than worthy graphical sequel. Maybe they'll make this one of those side story titles and begin work on a real sequel. All we can do is hope.
guys, Valkyria Chronicles sold just fine on PS3. In fact if you look up the numbers it got close to outselling Star Ocean The Last Hope, which is a proven franchise. It also outsold a few other bigger named RPG's. This is a niche genre with a new art style and a new combat, did everyone expect this to sell in the millions?
I will play this on the PSP but it won't be as good and I am not happy with the move.. a game this deep is always going to be better suited for the PS3.. I wonder what excuses they can throw out when the PSP game does not "light up" the sales charts
This is a definite buy. i might even pre order it.
ohh yea i also agree with voyou
Valid point, Voyou.
