Viacom Gives Former Harmonix Shareholders $208 Million

That's One Hell of a Bonus

by Sarah

It must be pretty sweet to be a former Harmonix shareholder right about now. Why? Because they’re about to get a bonus of over 200 million dollars to split between them. Thanks to the success and constantly good sales of Harmonix’s Rock Band, “financial results exceed specific contractual targets” for the company, and they’re being rewarded by Viacom, the parent company of MTV Games. The former shareholders are getting a bonus now in addition to one at the end of the year.

Thanks to consistently solid downloadable content, Rock Band has managed to stay fresh even four months after its release. It may not have sold as many units as the entire Guitar Hero franchise yet, but given time, it’s not hard to believe that it could happen. That’s one franchise Harmonix definitely needs to hang on to.
