Where Are They Now: Earthworm Jim
Snot a Problem!
by Sarah
Earthworm Jim is undeniably one of the biggest heroes of the 16-bit video game era. Originally showing up on the SNES and Sega Genesis in 1994, the run-and-gun platform star made his way through bizarre and humorous lands, making some friends and a few enemies along the way.
Now that it’s been over a decade since we first saw the earthworm-turned-intergalactic idol, it’s time to check in on Jim and his pals and see what fate the galaxy has bestowed upon them.
Earthworm Jim & Princess What’s Her Name
Earthworm Jim was once just your average Texas earthworm until the day that an ultra high tech indestructible super space cyber suit landed in his vicinity. After residing in it, he was transformed into the powerful figure that we now know. Princess What’s Her Name, meanwhile, was crucified throughout her entire life on her home planet of Insectica because she was considered to be so ugly. Imprisoned and kept a secret by her sister, the Queen, What’s Her Name managed to escape, and met up with Jim along the way. The two of them became fast friends.
As you may have guessed, the friendship later blossomed into romance. How did this earthworm and alien insect get together? I don’t know, and I don’t want to know, but they made it work. The two of them returned to Texas, running a farm and hatching a few dozen insect-worm creatures.
During the early years of their marriage, they struggled to make ends meet. However, that all changed when Jim discovered oil on their property. They made millions and bought land all over the state, most of which is managed by their offspring. The two of them are still together, happily enjoying their wads of cash.
Psy-Crow
Once the most revered bounty hunter in the galaxy, there was no job Psy-Crow wouldn’t take… for the right price. However, when Earthworm Jim took possession of the cyber suit that he had been in the process of delivering to the Queen, that all changed. Not only did Psy-Crow fail to get the suit back, but he also could not finish off Earthworm Jim once and for all, marking the first time in his career that he had ever failed.
His reputation ruined, Psy-Crow was unable to get any more high-paying jobs after that. He was forced to retire in shame. He managed to turn it around by penning a series of bounty hunter self-help books, sharing his secrets of the trade for the first time ever. His hunting days long over, Psy-Crow is enjoying life as an intergalactic best-selling author.
The Evil Queen Pulsating, Bloated, Festering, Sweaty, Pus-Filled, Malformed, Slug-For-a-Butt
Often called Queen Slug-For-a-Butt for short, this lovely creature was once the reigning monarch of Insectica (also known as Buttville). In addition to ruling over the kingdom, she was also responsible for the royal egg-laying. However, after the escape of her sister and an unpleasant visit from Earthworm Jim, the stress of these events prevented her from egg-laying.
Unable to produce offspring, she was dethroned, and with no other heir to the kingdom, the monarchy was eventually overturned. The subjects of her kingdom revolted, burning down the castle and declaring a democracy.
Queen Slug-For-a-Butt is widely believed to have been killed in the castle fire, but she managed to escape. She was not unharmed, however; half of her enormous rear was burned off, and she was forever unable to spawn. Forced to change her identity, for she isn’t the most beloved of creatures in Insectica now that it’s a free land, she now lives as a simple peasant, only a shell of her former self.
