Wii Rain Checks Not Selling Out
"Why Would I Wait Until January When I Could Have One NEVER?"
by Sarah
Along my travels this weekend, I happened to stop in at my old GameStop to put up some fliers for the Battle of the Rock Bands event next weekend. I couldn’t help but notice that there were still several “Your Wii is on the way!” display boxes behind the counter, indicating that the store had not sold all of its Wii Rain Checks yet.
While talking to several employees from multiple Philadelphia-area stores, it appears that none of the stores in the Philly district are selling out of these promise-keepers that were supposed to placate families that wanted a Wii in time for Christmas. Why? Some shoppers were appalled that they would have to wait until January, stating that they would find a way to get one before Christmas. Yes, because finding a Wii has been so easy for the past year, getting one days before the holiday should be no problem. Others weren’t crazy about the fact that they would have to pay for the entire thing in advance and only have a piece of paper to show for it.

Either way, if you’re still looking for a Wii in time for Tuesday, you’re going to need a miracle to procure one. The Rain Check program has been extended, presumably until stores actually sell out of them, and as of noon today most of the stores in the area have moved a few more units. At this point, you’re better off with a guaranteed Wii in January than nothing at all; it’s not like the systems are going to be any easier to get next year.
