Xbox 360 Outsells Wii and PS3 in Japan

Those JRPGs Are Getting the Job Done

by Sarah

Here in North America, just about everyone loves the 360. How can you not? Aside from that whole red rings thing, the system’s got a fantastic controller, top-notch online service, and a variety of games to choose from in just about every genre. Over in Japan, though, they haven’t been digging the 360 so much. In fact, 360 sales in Japan are usually abysmal. So it comes as a bit of a shock to hear that the 360 was the top selling system in Japan from September 8 to the 14.

While the Wii did admirably during the week with 27,057 units sold (the PS3 only moved 8,050), the 360 went from moving 843 systems the previous week to selling 28,681 units. That’s a pretty significant increase! I guess the recent rash of RPGs released on the system, as well as the promise of more to come, is really having a big effect on Japan. I’m guessing the price cut didn’t hurt either. While these results probably won’t last, it’s nice to see that the 360 is doing well over there, at least for one week.
