2 Year Old Beaten to Death with Game Controller
Sometimes There are No Words
by Sean
Cnn.com is reporting another tragedy with a tangential connection to the world of gaming. Today's sadness comes from York, PA and is the horror of the last moments of 2 year-old Darisabel Baez.
Apparently Darisabel was at home with her mother's boyfriend, 26 year-old Harve L. Johnson. The girl's mother, 19 year-old Neida E. Baez called an ambulance on Sunday night. She claims that Johnson brought the unconscious child to her, and that Darisabel was limp and wet from an attempt to revive her in a bathtub. Johnson has acknowledged beating the child with a game controller, but has not said why.
The real tragedy of this whole situation is that Baez has told police that Johnson had abused the girl in the past and that she had heard Darisabel scream on Sunday after Johnson had beat her. Johnson and Baez remained in custody Tuesday. His bail was set at $200,000; hers was $25,000.
Once again, I don't know how much more I can add to this. I guess I just feel the need to say that if you know someone who is an abusive relationship- be it an adult or a child- please do anything and everything in your power to get that person out of that danger.
I would also like to say that I hope against hope that as the mainstream media cover this story, they keep in mind that although Darisabel was beaten by a game controller, she was killed by an abusive scumbag.

These game violence stories are making me sick. I just hope people don't try to vilify games and gamers more than they already do because of these types of thing. Poor little girl.
The more games become part of the mainstream the more we are going to hear these stories.
Well I wouldn't relate this story to much to gaming. As tragic as this is, the object itself was a controller, but the action itself was done by someone who obviously is a total phyco to beat to death and abuse an innocent 2 year old girl. this is terrible though.
so, ban hammers if someone beats someone to death a hammer.
O come on "binary friend" gaming doesn't create these problems. People who need to play games to "escape" reality create these problems.
Before video games, it was drugs... I'd much rather a bunch of kids playing games than doing drugs.
