Activision Already Recruiting for DJ Hero 2
Activision Exploiting a Franchise? Who Could Have Guessed?
by Sean

Although DJ Hero is still about a month away from releasing, word is already starting to trickle out that Activision is hard at work on the sequel. This should come as a surprise to absolutely no one, since a) Activsion would make a sequel out of ANYTHING and b) the turntable peripheral comes with a $100 price tag. A report from GI.biz claims that not only are the developers working on the game's follow-up, but they've also started to enlist a line-up of professional disc jockeys.
With "luminaries" like Eminem, Grand Master Flash, Daft Punk, and the late DJ AM populating the first DJ Hero, it would almost appear as though Activision has already exhausted the DJ resource pool. But apparently there are more DJs out there than we were aware. Household names like DMC Champion and DJ Qbert (who GI.biz describes as "a pioneer of turntablism") are reportedly in talks with the developer to appear in the sequel.
Personally, I think Activision may be putting the cart before the horse with this decision. While games like Guitar Hero lend themselves to a sequel, if only because of how insanely popular they have become, DJ Hero represents a new attempt at rhythm gaming. There's no telling if people will take to the turntable peripheral as quickly and as readily as they did the guitar. It just seems like poor planning to announce the sequel before sales figures are in. But then again, what do I know? I don't work in an environment of skepticism, pessimism, and fear. I just create one.
