Activision Announces Transformers: War for Cybertron

I Have A Feeling It Will be More Than Meets the Eye

Perhaps you're a fan of the Transformers universe, but also have some taste, and therefore have been disappointed with the two most recent movie tie-in games. Well, there may be good news on the horizon (and I emphasize the word "may") as Activision has announced a new game, based on what is being described as "all-new visualisations of iconic characters". Entitled Transformers: War for Cybertron, it will arrive at some point in 2010 for every decent system known to man (aka - everything but the PSPgo). Set on the Transformers' home planet of Cybertron in the era before the robots have come to Earth, the game seeks to present their world as never before. As in most Transformers licensed games, it will feature two distinct campaigns, one for the Autobots and a second featuring the Decepticons.

The game will be set around the civil war that divided Cybertron into the two warring camps. The Autobots' campaign will be a heroic tale, as they fight to save their home planet, while the Decepticons wage a fierce war to sate their unquenchable thirst for complete universal domination. There will be a variety of online game modes, including team-based co-op and a handful of head-to-head battle types.

Rob Kostich, head of marketing, licensed products, Activision Publishing, Inc, underlined the obvious when he said of the game, "Transformers: War for Cybertron is an origins story, taking players on a gripping, adrenaline-fueled journey. ..The game transports players to a living, metallic planet where they will battle as giant converting robots in single player, online co-op or head-to-head multiplayer matches that are fully immersive from start to finish."

There was no specific launch date nor screenshots included in the press release, but there was this announcement trailer. I'm not sure if the footage is in-game or cinematic (although I'm strongly leaning towards the second), but it does show some promise. We're sure to hear more about this game before it's out, so stay tuned!

Being all for robots and everything I would love to see this game come out and be really good. There was finally a really good superhero game this year(Arkham: Asylum), so maybe we will get a good transformer game. :-)
