8-bit fans rejoice! Aksys Games has announced that BIT.TRIP.VOID, the third evolution of CommanderVideo's adventures, will be coming to WiiWare this fall. Although VOID has a similar look and feel to the first two iterations of the series, it would appear that developer Gaijin Games has put enough new wrinkles into the game to make it well worth the price. VOID brings back the 4-player offline co-op support that was a part of the first game (BIT.TRIP.BEAT), but which was scaled back to 2-player for the second version (BIT.TRIP.CORE). Also, looking at the game's first trailer, it would appear as though blocks will come from 8 directions, doubling the four used in each of the first two.

Gainjin Games designer Alex Neuse gave this quote about VOID, "BIT.TRIP VOID completes the first chapter in CommanderVideo's journey with a synesthetic exploration of mind/beat interaction.  But as one chapter ends, another begins... We hope that you find this game as beautiful as we do, and we can't wait to make another one for you. Keep rockin'!"

Anyone who has seen or played either of the first two games knows that the BIT.TRIP series provides one of the most addictive, and frustrating, game experiences on the Wii. VOID will be playable at the Nintendo booth at PAX, so if you're in Seattle, stop by and check it out.

In the meantime, here's that trailer:
