Brad Pitt Slated to Play Lead in Dark Void Movie

Also, There's Going to be a Dark Void Movie

by Sean

Capcom's Dark Void won't be out until early next year, but that doesn't mean that it can't join the growing ranks of games being ported to the silver screen. A release from the developer today announced that Dark Void has been optioned for a big screen adaptation, to be produced by Brad Pitt's production company, Plan B Entertainment. Plan B has been involved in the past in some fairly big name movies, including The Departed, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford.

Germaine Gioia, Capcom's licensing vice-president, almost sounded surprised that it took so long for the unreleased game to go to celluloid:

"As a game, Dark Void was developed with a wide-screen mentality - a world full of adventure presented in cinematic scope and scale. Plan B recognized the potential of our newest property and are as excited about bringing Dark Void to life in cinemas as Capcom is to bring the interactive experience to home theaters."

Before anyone has a chance to start speculating on who will play the lead role in the movie, the press release has stated that Dark Void could be a "potential starring vehicle for Pitt." Of course no production schedule has been made official yet, and it's entirely possible that this movie will never see the light of day. Just because a story has been optioned for film rights does not necessarily mean that the movie will ever get made. Chances are Plan B wanted to get the rights at a low price, and will wait to see how the game is received in the marketplace before deciding to move forward. We'll have to wait until next year to find out.

I'd watch it. Hopefully Nolan North does Pitt's VO.
