Bungie Rings Up a New Halo: Reach Trailer
Extended Footage of Upcoming Prequel Sorely Lacking in Gameplay
by Sean
Fanboys know full well that in less than two months, Bungie will birth upon the gaming world a new child, a child of Spartan descent, a child named Halo: Reach. Today, the developer has unveiled a new look inside the womb with the above trailer. Although it's sorely lacking in amniotic fluid, it does show some good looking action sequences, as well as some of the themes that the game will introduce. All of it is, of course, set to that all-too familiar musical score.
At this point, I'm going to stop with the somewhat gross pregnancy analogy and focus on the trailer at hand. While it is packed with gorgeous visuals, I couldn't help but notice that the footage was entirely comprised of cinematic moments, without a second's worth of gameplay. Sure it's nice to see shots of land battle, as well as scenes of space dogfights, but I wouldn't have minded a little more. Not that anyone out there needs to be reminded of what Halo gameplay looks like, it would have been nice to see something for the sake of comparison. Again, regardless of how the game plays, the fiercely loyal fanbase of the universe will make this one of the best-selling games of the year. But enough resting on laurels Bungie! Show us something new!
