A recent posting to a Los Angeles-based casting company's website has revealed what kinds of characters gamers can expect in the upcoming Rockstar Games' period piece L.A. Noire. The motion capture call sheet lists a large number of the people that will populate the game's 1940s environments. Apart from the game's official announcement and one lone trailer, this constitutes the full amount of information we now have about the new IP. Although the company is looking mostly for face/body types, there are quite a few parts that call for the actors to be able to "handle LOTS of dialogue", which leads me to believe we're going to get Rockstar's trademark of an excellent script delivered by incredible character models.

Many of the parts are described in vague terms, like "Interesting 1940's - 50's character faces", but on quite a few of them, what appear to be key story elements are revealed, using phrases like "she is Phelps' love interest" or "Robbed at gunpoint in the scene". Reading the list over, one can start to piece together some of the elements of how the game's story will unfold. The game's main character will be Cole Phelps, a 25-35 year old guy, described as "Gary Cooper or Gregory Peck". His girlfriend, Elsa Lichtmann, is a jazz singer. Apart from that, it's tough to piece together a coherent story, but it's pretty much assured that the archetypical noir character types will be there, from the grizzled detectives, to the Chinese laundary owner, and even the amatuer boxing manager.
