Costume Quest Getting DLC Addition

Grubbins on Ice Available Now for 360, Coming Soon to PS3

One of the better DLC games released this year has to have been Costume Quest. Developed by Double Fine, the same studio responsible for Brütal Legend, its combination of simplistic RPG elements and clever writing made it a sleeper hit among anyone who played it. It was so well received, in fact, that it is a heavy favorite to take home Spike's Downloadable Game of the Year. If I had one complaint with the game, its that the fun was over all too quickly. But the fun doesn't have to be over, as Double Fine has announced a DLC pack for Costume Quest, entitled Grubbins on Ice.

The new content includes a whole new level, complete with new quests, new characters, and, naturally, new costumes. In Grubbins on Ice the action moves to Repugia, the homeworld of the evil Grubbins. Wren and Reynold are back, along with Lucy and Everett. Early on, Lucy is kidnapped by Araxia, the monster leader who has overthrown the elders of Repugia. You'll be tasked with rescuing Lucy and restoring some semblance of order to Repugia.

The full list of new features is described as:

  • A pirate costume with a zipline ability that allows players to slide down wires using their hook hand
  • An eyeball costume that has a zoom-out ability letting players see more of the environment and potentially find secrets
  • A Yeti costume with the ability to shield the entire party in battle
  • New characters, including the new boss Araxia; new monsters such as the Repugiarchs; and new neighbors – non-player character monsters with unique outfits
  • Eight new battle stamps and 18 new “Creepy Treat” cards to collect
  • All-new storyline and quests filled with Double Fine’s trademark humor and charm

Grubbins on Ice is available right now for 360 for 400, and will be added to the PlayStation Network on the 21st of December for about five bucks. If you haven't had a chance to try out Costume Quest yet, I strongly recommend it, and more gameplay for not much more money seems like a fine idea to me.
