And the Scariest Moment Goes To....

by Sean

Last week, in conjunction with EA's release of Dead Space, we asked you all for your scariest gaming moment. The stories that you guys came up with were equal parts terrifying, hilarious, and awesome. It was not an easy task to try to pick just three from all the incredible submissions, but it was a task that had to be done.

So, now that all the votes are in, tabulated, and calculated, we are ready to announce our three prize winners.

Third place goes to Lisa for this memory from Silent Hil 2:

Pyramid Head, Pyramid Head, Pyramid Head.

I would never play Silent Hill unless my brother was in the room with me because for some reason it always made me feel better. Because you know, playing alone is dangerous and making sure someone else is there just in case you have a freak out moment isn't at all childish.. it's.. normal..

The first time I actually thought I'd be ok playing the game alone.. I heard it..

I heard Pyramid Head's long sword dragging across the pavement, coming after ME. I took one look at him and literally threw down the controller and ran upstairs, not bothering to turn the game off. That was it. What the HELL was I thinking playing that game alone!? I seriously went straight upstairs, into my parents room, and stayed there until I thought it was safe to be alone again hahah.

You know what, I don't want to win the game. Honestly, I wouldn't even be able to play it. I live alone, and unless you sent a webcam along with the game to make a segment entitled, "How a Grown Woman plays A Scary Game Alone and Alternates Between Literally Pisses Herself on the Couch out of Fear and Continuously Running out of the Room Screaming" it'll be useless and far less entertaining to me. Give it to some braver soul haha.

Second prize went to Jozzy V1 with an all-too familiar story of memory loss:

My scariest moment? I remember it like it was yesterday.......

I had just gotten home from school, and was geared up for a three day weekend. Grabbing a frosty beverage from the kitchen, I made my way upstairs and sat in my favorite comfy chair. My hand reached over, steady in my determination, and opened my gamecase of choice. I took a moment to stare at the case, marvel at its wonder, and prepare myself for the joys to come. I gently loosened the disk from it's hard plastic captor, and read the title aloud; "Final Fantasy 7: Disk 3". I took a breath, and leaned towards my loyal Playstation and set the disk into it's rightful place. I distinctly remeber three clicks. 1-the game being pressed firmly into the spindle. 2-the latch of the disk tray shutting firmly, sealing the game in it's place. 3-the calming click of the power button. A few moments later, the opening sequence began in epic splendor.

I will never forget the words I read next.

the horror...............the horror.............

But the first prize winner, who won the judges over by a large margin with his mixture of horrible gaming and terrifying reality was RHINOTRONICScom with this macabre entry:

Quite a few years ago I was playing Silent Hill 2; one of the most scary games i have ever played. let me set the scene first... its about 2am... i have every single light off in the house.. i have a 65" Sony HD TV.. i have a 500 watt full Dolby surround sound system (CRANKED). I am home alone by myself... i have been playing the game for about an hour or so and decided i was hungry, so i put the game on pause and grabbed a bowl of cereal from the kitchen. i decided to keep my scare level high, so i kept all the lights off while grabbing a bowl of Honey Bunches of Oats (with Almonds)... i sat back down with the bowl of cereal in my lap. (made it back from the kitchen without some scary creature jumping out at me) every time i could take a second i would grab a bite of cereal and continue playing this super scary game. as i am playing this game it is giving me chills all up and down my body. if you have ever played this game you know that all kinds of scary stuff jump out at you and just gives you the chills looking at it, and the music realy sets the tone for how scary this game is. so as I'm playing, my heart rate is already high. I'm nervous to what might be the next scary thing to try and kill me, and I'm eating my bowl of cereal. i keep getting the feeling that things are crawling all over my arms and legs... i wipe my arms thinking its just the goose bumps... i continue playing and eating cereal... i start to freak out because i feel like things are creeping and crawling all over me... once again i just know its my mind playing tricks on me because of this scary game... now i start to feel these things on my face as I'm eating my bowl of cereal... i finally cant take it any more after about 10 minutes of sitting there in the pitch dark with my surround sound all the way up and the bad guys trying to eat me. i get up and turn on a light to figure out why these goose bumps are making me feel so weird... well i was COVERED in ants... my first thought is that the game has come to reality and i have zombie ants all over me or something... NOO....I HAD ANTS IN MY CEREAL!! and the bowl, with nothing but the remnants of cereal and a tiny bit of milk, still had about 500 dead ants floating in it. i had about another 1,000 ants all over my legs, arms, and face. they were everywhere. i start slapping myself all over freaking out because I'm still not 100% sure if this is real, from the game, or i am hallucinating. they were just those black little sugar ants so i wasn't getting bit. but let me tell you, ants crawling all over your body while you play any scary game will scare the living S#!T out of you...
Not only was i so freaked out about this game and all the ants that were crawling all over me, now i had to come to terms with how many ants i probably just ate....

That was the BEST scary event EVER in my gaming life... hope you enjoyed my TRUE AND SCARY story!

Congrats, guys. I have to say, eating a bowl of ants is pretty hardcore, and at least worthy of one free game.

For a second I thought Lisa won, and her story was scary and all, but with her disclaimer at the end about not even wanting to play Dead Space, it would have been some form of torture to give her the prize.

I still say we send her a brand new copy of Silent Hill 2 and maybe a Pyramid Head poster.

Yeah, thanks, but no thanks lol. I'm seriously considering getting Dead Space.. but I honestly don't think I can handle it. I don't care-- I'm a total wuss.

But I'm looking forward to my poster! =D
