DLC Coming to Army of Two: The 40th Day

New Maps Mean You Probably Still Won't Buy the Game

Mixing bromance with ho-hum gameplay, EA's sequel Army of Two: The 40th Day has been out for slightly over a month. The game has received mixed reviews, and that, coupled with the fact that it released at or around the same time as some other highly anticipated games (Mass Effect 2, MAG and Bayonetta just to name a few) meant that its sales haven't exactly been through the roof (according to the NPD, it was the eighth best selling game for the month). So if you're EA, and you've released a game to little response, what's the best move to make? Why, release some paid DLC of course! Beginning on April 1st (unless it's a big joke) you'll be able to purchase the "Chapters of Deceit" map pack, which will deliver two new co-op maps to the game.

The new chapters will have Salem and Rios discover some new information that could end the invasion by Jonah and his 40th Day Initiative. Surprisingly (or maybe not so much), our intrepid heroes quickly discover that everyone, inclueding the people who provided them the intel, is only out for themselves. In that kind of situation, the only person you can trust is your partner.

There's no mention of whether or not the new maps will also bring new weapons or masks, but I'm guessing since there was no specific mention of those things, they won't be there. Sadly the new content will not be free, and will cost $9.99 (PSN) or 800 (XBL, natch). Maybe you're thinking to yourself, "Hey, isn't ten bucks a little steep for two more maps?", to which I would have to reply, "Yes." And maybe your follow-up question would be, "Wouldn't EA be better served releasing the DLC for free, in the hopes that it will attract new players to a game that no one is really talking about anymore?", to which I would have to reply, "Yes." And then you might hit me with, "Who's going to buy these maps at that price?", to which you wouldn't hear much in the way of a response from me, because I have absolutely no idea.
