E3 09: Sony Rolls Out ModNation Racers

A Very Intriguing Concept in Cart Racing

by Sean

Jack Tretton is a man whose job requirements include occasionally, well, exaggerating. While it's well known that the PlayStation 3 has been, to date, the "also-ran" of the current generation, he gets up on that E3 stage year after year and tries his little heart out to sell the world on whatever IP Sony is crowing about at any given time, regardless of whether or not the "core gamers" are buying. Last year, in the course of talking up LittleBigPlanet, Jack introduced the E3 world to the concept of "Play, Create, Share". At that time we assumed it only referred to the little big world of LittleBigPlanet. Today, during a rich E3 presser, we found out that it was actually a corporate strategy and that the "Play, Create, Share" mantle will soon be carried by a new IP, ModNation Racers.

Looking like a cart-racer as driven by Dunny dolls, ModNation Racers brings level editing tools, similar to those seen in LBP, to the racetrack. Happily, for morons like myself, ModNation's level editor looks to be much easier and more intuitive than the daunting LBP creator.

But don't take my word for it, watch the footage from the press conference:

I was actually really impressed by this. I'm hoping that it jumps to the 360 or that the PS3 gets a price drop because I would get this in a heartbeat.

i dont think this will come to 360, nor will ps3 get a price drop any time soon, but i will agree that this looks pretty freaking sweet. and i dont even care that much for kart racers.
