EA sent out a press release today that did my heart good. Hell, any press release that doesn't talk about losses, layoffs, or liquidations is a welcome change of pace these days. This one announced a sequel to Boom Blox, my own personal Wii Game of the Year for 2008. Entitled Boom Blox Bash Party, the game promises to bring over 400 new levels, new multiplayer modes, and the same brand of silly fun that made the original so addictive.

Looking over the release, one can see that EA seems to be focusing more attention this time around to the multiplayer aspects of the game. The game's producer, some guy name of Steven Speilberg, had this to say of Bash Party, "We know families and friends really enjoyed playing the original Boom Blox together, so we designed more explosive multiplayer experiences with Boom Blox Bash Party."

If the words of Steven Spielberg aren't enough to get you excited for this game, how about a few more details. How about underwater levels? No? Maybe zero gravity block breaking is more your style? I can see you're starting to get into this. A cast of new characters is also on the way, so you can see even more cute cuboid creatures. The level creation tools from the first installment will be back, but now have reached their full potential, as players will now be able to upload and download created levels directly onto their Wii.

The release gives the typically vague release of "Spring 2009", but it doesn't matter. It's worth the wait to have something to look forward to on the Wii.
