EA Cancels NBA Elite 11

And You Thought Madden Was the Cursed Game

by Sean

Late in Septemeber EA Sports announced that their newly monikered basketball title, NBA Elite 11, would be delayed until some time in the first quarter of next year. However it now looks like even that was an optimistic goal, as during an investor conference call yesterday, EA president John Schappert announced that the game had been cancelled altogether. He went on to tell the investors that in the future, development of the NBA license would be shifted from the studios of EA Canada to the Orlando offices of EA Tiburon.

In the wake of the cancellation, the demo for Elite has been pulled from both Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, and the port of the game which was released on the iTunes App Store in October is also no longer available. It's not exactly clear what this means for people who have already downloaded the game, beyond the fact that it seems likely there won't be any updates released for it.

In lieu of a full release, EA has promised updates for NBA Live 10 throughout the course of the NBA season. So if you're looking for a current basketball experience, it looks like your options are either the cartoony NBA Jam or 2K's offering of NBA 2K11.

So wait... Duke Nukem forever is actually coming out and this game isn't?
