"Through me, the way into the woeful city."

EA has announced this morning a partnership with Star Media's Film Roman company to produce a feature length animated movie based on Dante's Inferno, the immortal epic poem. The film plans to expand on the world of the Inferno that EA will be introducing in the 2010 game release of the same name. This will be the second such collaboration between the gaming behemoth and the production company, the first being Dead Space: Downfall.
The story of the movie, much like that of the game (or poem, if you're into "reading") will follow Dante through the nine circles of Hell; limbo, lust, gluttony, greed, anger, heresy, violence, fraud and treachery, in search of Beatrice, his true love. It promises to cover some of the areas of the poem that the game will omit, and thus be a more of a "companion piece" to the game.
In the press release, Jay Fukuto, Head of Studio for Film Roman, was understandably happy to have the work, “This is like nothing else out in the marketplace right now – a visually stunning project based on one of the most powerful stories ever told.”. He went on to speak to how wonderful EA is as a collaborative partner, “It could only happen with a partner with the vision and creativity of EA. They were great collaborators on ‘Dead Space: Downfall,’ and we expect another very rewarding experience with this new feature."
Dante's Inferno will be coming to the PS3 and 360 some time in 2010. If the Dead Space: Downfall model is an example, the movie should be released right around the same time.
