EA Kicks Off $50,000 Tiger Woods Viral Challenge

Think You Can Make a Viral Video?

by Sean

Tay Zonday. Charlie the unicorn. David after the dentist. Once upon a time, those three phrases meant absolutely nothing to anyone. Then they hit YouTube and became internet phenomena, rising to the level of viral videos. Everyone with a video camera and editing software secretly dreams about having one of their creations go viral and grant them the label of "internet famous". There is no real formula for what makes a particular video more viral than another, but EA is hoping they can capture viral lightning in a bottle, and are willing to pay handsomely for it.

A contest got underway today called the Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 10 Viral Challenge. EA is looking for someone out there in the internets who can create "a viral video that can one-up the now famous 'Walk on Water' video from last year". The filmmaker that comes up with the best entry will win a cool $50,000 cash prize.

If you're interested in entering, you can head over to www.tigerwoods10.com for an asset kit and creative brief. Submissions will be accepted until July 1st. Then an internal EA judging committee will determine the five best videos, which will be posted on July 16th for public judging. On August 16th, a winner will be named and rewarded.

Although I question to use the word "viral" in a contest name in the midst of an international swine flu panic, I'm interested to see what people can come up with. I'd love to see Tiger Woods battling a light-saber weidling Stephen Colbert, or maybe beating Susan Boyle with a golf club.
