First Look at Ben Kingsley in Prince of Persia Movie

Let's Not Forget this Guy Won an Oscar for Gandhi

by Sean

That there is a picture of Sir Ben Kingsley (via Joystiq) on the set of the upcoming film adaptation of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. That's right, the four time Academy Award nominee, who has been hailed as one of the finest of his generation for his stunning portrayals of characters as diverse and memorable as Mohandas Gandhi, Itzhak Stern and Meyer Lansky, has donned the belt to play Nizam (a.k.a. big boss fight).

Now I know as well as you do that video games translated into films are a risky proposition at best (see: Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Postal, Silent Hill, et al). While that picture alone doesn't show a great deal of potential (seriously, what is up with that belt!?), the casting moves made by director Mike Newell (previously of Harry Potter and Donnie Brasco fame) have at been a source for hope. Sir Ben, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Alfred Molina all have large parts, and are all rather good actors. So who knows.

Still... in that picture Ben does look more than a little bit like the little brother of the mute Kryptonian from Superman II.

Nice! They are taking this movie way too seriously, which is really funny. I can't wait to see how this turns out.
