FPS Gaming Vest Demo at CES

Getting Shot Never Felt Better

by Sean

I would have to say that, for the most part, my favorite game genre would have to be first person shooters. I love feeling completely immersed in another world- be it Rapture, the polluted wasteland of Chernobyl, or the Holy City of High Charity.

TN Games, based out of Redmond, Washington, has decided to see you your immersive experience and raise it to a whole new level with their 3rd Space First Person Shooter Vest.

The vest uses a lightweight air compressor to fire fully customizable pneumatic cells. Each of these cells can deliver up to 10 pounds of force, and fire at their own rate, force, and durations, which allows for a wide array of sensory experiences. Everything from massive explosions to creepy finger taps are pumped directly into the chest and back of the gamer as they happen on the screen. In other words, if you get shot in the game, you'll feel it in your home. They also market a second vest with 10 compressors designed to simulate acceleration, deceleration and G-forces for driving or flying games.

The FPS vest ships with the air compressor, as well as two games: Call of Duty 2 and TN's own title 3rd Space Incursion and retail for $169. And with free downloadable drivers from TN Games, the unit will also work with Crysis, Halflife 2 Episode 1, Halflife 2 Episode 2, Medal of Honor Airborne, F.E.A.R., Enemy Territory Quake Wars, Quake 4 and Doom 3.

As if that weren't enough, they're now working on a helmet designed to simulate the feeling of head shots. I can already hear Jack Thompson getting his suing pen ready!

I was lucky enough to demo both the FPS vest and the prototype helmet while at CES, check it out:

Helmet? Would you really feel a head shot? Would you ever want to?

The vest looks like it would be fun to try. G suit simulator would be a blast also.

Only really crazy people or intense gamers would use this. BTW, I love the smell of napalm in the morning
