Guitar Hero 5 "RockFest" Detailed
Rock Out with Your New Multiplayer Options Out
by Sean

During a recent interview with 1UP, Guitar Hero 5 producer Brian Bright revealed details about the new set of multiplayer options that will be coming to the game. It's going to be called "RockFest", and was described by Bright as, "a suite of new multiplayer game types in Guitar Hero 5 that can be played individually or in teams". Each new game type will have the option to either be played individually or can be incorporated into a playlist, allowing for a different mode for each song.
The new games modes are:
- Momentum -- All players begin at medium difficulty and go up in difficulty when they hit 20 notes in a row. But they go down in difficulty after missing three notes.
- Streakers -- You get points for getting note streaks. One point for the first 10 note streak, two for reaching 20, three for 30, and so on.
- Perfectionist -- The player with the top percentage of notes hit in each section (intro, solo, chorus, etc...) gets four points for that section, second place gets two, third gets one.
- Do or Die -- If you miss three notes in a section (intro, chorus, verse, etc.) you are out until the start of the next section.
- Elimination -- The song is divided depending on length and number of players. 30 seconds or so in, a timer pops up. When it reaches zero the player with the lowest score is cut, and the last man standing wins.
- Pro Face-Off -- A classic head- to-head score battle.
While some of these seem like cool additions, the "Do or Die" and "Elimination" modes seem to me to run a little counter to the whole point of playing this game with friends. Activision has made a big deal out of the ability in GH5 to "drop in" to a song in progress, so adding game modes that kick people out seems, I don't know, sort of wrong. Still, it's nice to know that GH5 isn't going to be a complete cut and paste job.

i think the momentum mode could be fun, especially for the songs that are only half impossible
