Half Life 2 Arrives on Mac OS X Today

Valve Gives OS X Fans What They Want

by Sean

It was only at the beginning of this month that Valve finally brought its Steam digital distribution service to Mac computers. The service launched with an impressive roster of games, but absent from the inventory was the classic, genre-redefining shooter Half Life 2. All of that changes today, as the developer has announced that Gordon Freeman will be bringing his signature crowbar to the Mac Steam store. Although the game hasn't shown up on the service yet, the following trailer assures us that today, the 26th of May, will bring Half Life 2 to the one platform that hasn't gotten it yet.

You have to hand it to Valve, it's a company that knows how to do a good ad parody. Previously, the company seemed to limit the parodies to still images. However, included in that initial batch of screenshots were a few stills from the above commercial. Does this mean that at some point in time, we'll see the rest of the early teaser images turned into full advertisments? The possibility of seeing the TF2 Heavy dancing around a green background, a la the early iPod commercials, does bring a smile to my lips. And since that game hasn't made it to OS X yet, it seems like there's at least a chance it could happen.
