I don't know about you, but I am starting to get a little burned out on
Halo 3 news. It seems like anything that Bungie announces about the soon-to-be-released conclusion to the saga of Master Chief is treated like earth-shattering news.
Don't get me wrong, I played the beta and I can't wait to plunk down money for the game. But I am just getting tired of the hype. I get it,
people are ordering a lot of them,
new suits are great, and
we all love hearing about new playable vehicles. But at some point, I just have to say, "ENOUGH! JUST BRING ON THE DAMN GAME ALREADY!"
However, there are some exceptions to the overhype phenomenon. First there was the
actual Warthog.
Okay, that was great. Nothing can top that. Oh wait, something may just have.
Announced over the weekend at
Comic-Con (no, I wasn't there, just like I wasn't at E3.... but look out
PAX!) was a line of replicas, created by
Jasman Toys, based on the weapons of the Covenant from Halo. The first two (pictured below) go on sale in October, to coincide with the game's release date. And, unlike the Warthog, I might actually be able to get my hands on these.
Check 'em out, but be prepared to drool, covet and whine:
Halo 3 Covenant Plasma Pistol - SRP $79.99
Halo 3 Covenant Plasma Rifle - SRP $119.99
To be sure, those prices are nothing to sneeze at, but bear in mind, these are more than just replicas that are meant to sit in a display case. These are usable toys.
Remember Laser Tag? These guns work on basically the same principle, but with some Halo inspired differences. Those little red boxes function like shields in Halo, taking a certain amount of damage before you die, but also recharging if you take cover. And if you shoot the rifle for too long, it will "overheat" and the sides will open up.
Having just
celebrated another birthday, I have to think for a second as to whether or not I am too old for Laser Tag. Then the second passes and I know I am, in fact, too old for Laser Tag. This will not stop me from buying one or both of these.
I just love hype!
Oh, and here's the Warthog again:
