inFAMOUS to be Made Into a Movie
Empire City Gets Ready to Make the Jump to the Silver Screen

The craze of optioning games for big screen adaptations is quickly becoming one of the most annoying trends of 2009 (a close second would be game delays). Let's do the list: we've got Halo, Dead Space, hell, even Asteroids and Myst are going to be turned into big budget Hollywood films. Where does it stop? The latest crossover from console to film has been announced today by the Hollywood Reporter. Thanks to Sony Pictures, inFAMOUS, the PlayStation 3 exclusive, open-world morality tale, will soon be coming to a theater near you.
Avi and Ari Arad, who normally are called in on comic book film adaptations, will be co-producers on the project. While script duties for the Sucker Punch produced game will be handled by Sheldon Turner, who has previously worked on the remake of the Longest Yard as well as Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning.
Turner was quoted on his excitement level for bringing Cole McGrath to life:
"What excited me most about the game was it was the first of which I've come across that had a big idea and a character arc. It is, I believe, the future of gaming. The game, while big and fun, is at its core a love ballad to the underachiever, which is what our hero, Cole McGrath, is."
While I don't think I can agree with the statement that inFAMOUS featured the first gaming character to have a "big idea" or a "character arc", I think that, considering some of the other games currently in development, this could actually make a pretty decent feature length film. Early consideration from the Gamervision casting couch has Sam Witwer (aka the Apprentice from The Force Unleashed) playing Cole. Can anyone come up with someone better?
