Internet Becomes Another Gun Statistic

New Meaning for "First-Person Shooter"

by Sean

Did you find yourself experiencing slower than usual internet times on Monday night? Well, you're not alone. Here's what happened: This past Monday night, ISP connections all across the country experienced a slow-down that experts had been at a loss to explain. That is until technicians in Cleveland, Ohio, walked outside and noticed that some fiber optic cables had been sabotaged- with extreme prejudice. TeliaSonera AB, an ISP which had reported the disruption in the northern leg of its network, discovered that a bundle of cables had been shot at close range according to a company spokesman. Theirs was not the only network affected, as the damage was apparently spread across two-thirds of a mile! As of now, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack and the motive behind it is unclear. So let's open it up to speculation... I, for one, blame Jack Thompson. By keeping violent games out of the hands of America, people have no choice but to actually shoot at the internet. Yep, that's probably what happened. Or maybe some hicks got wasted on moonshine and mistook the cables for a pit of snakes and got freaked out. Source
