Lucha Libre Delayed Until October
¡Que Lastima!
by Sean

Those of you who were looking forward to getting your hands on Lucha Libre AAA: Heroes del Ring next month may have just had your hearts broken, at least for a little while. Developer Slang has announced that the Mexican wrestling title will miss the original shipping date of August 9th, and will instead be in stores on October 12th of this year. The developers claim that the delay is partially due to a need for more development time, but the extra time is also going to be used to allow Immersion to give Lucha Libre a bigger marketing push.
In a press release posted to Slang's website, company president Abraham Batista explained the move:
"Based on the positive feedback we received at the 2010 Electronic Entertainment Expo we decided to push the launch of Lucha Libre AAA: Heroes del Ring closer to the upcoming holiday shopping season. The additional time provides us with several key benefits, including the ability to market to a larger audience, build greater street buzz with consumers and continue the development cycle."
Clearly the extra couple of months will help Slang increase awareness of Lucha Libre, but I question the new release window. August only has a few potential competitors for Slang, the biggest one clearly being Madden, but after that it looks like the biggest threats come from Mafia 2 or Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days. Meanwhile, October will see the release of several potential GOTY candidates, including Medal of Honor, Fallout: New Vegas and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2. There are also two other fighting games being released in October, namely EA Sports MMA and WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2011. Building buzz for a game is important, no doubt, but it's also important to make sure that your game doesn't get lost in a crowded game market.
Speaking of Lucha Libre, if you entered our contest from a few weeks back, make sure to keep your eyes on your Gamervision inbox. We'll be notifying the winners as soon as we get the prizes shipped to us.
