Matt Groening to Appear in Simpsons Game

America's Favorite Family's Creator to be a Boss

by Sean

Matt Groening revealed some juicy details about the upcoming EA-developed game based on the world's favorite animated family, the Simpsons. Some very persistent bloggers from Eurogamer cornered him after an appearance to promote the upcoming Simpsons movie, and managed to get a few questions in to Mr. Groening about the game. Behind those glasses lie a very funny (and wealthy) brain. Mmmmm.... brains... Groening: "Well the video game is mainly written by great writers, Matt Selman and Matt Warburton - I mean, you can just tell. Great, right? They did a send-up of videogames. It's a videogame about videogames; and I'm in the videogame." I'm not too sure about the whole game within a game thing... seems too deliberately self-referential. But it was Groening's next quote that made my ears perk up: "I'm a boss that you have to fight at the end of the game. It was really fun recording a million ways of dying, going 'UGGH, ARGGH, EUURGH!" Contrary to most fans of the show who claim it has fallen far from the "golden years" when Conan O'Brien was writing, I am one of the rare people who are of the opinion that this show has actually gotten better as time has gone on. So I would play a Simpsons game no matter what. But I love the idea of the Simpsons characters having to destroy Groening in order to conquer the game. It's like killing God... Nietzche would be proud... Be careful when fighting monsters, lest you forget a save point. I wonder if after you, as a Simpsons character, kill Groening, the screen goes blank and the Universe collapses on itself. I hate that screen going blank crap... such a cop-out. Source
