Medal of Honor Gunship Gameplay Video
If It's In the War, It's In the Game
by Sean

Ever since word came out that EA's Medal of Honor would feature actual scenarios from the current Afghanistan conflict, including characters that are in the Taliban, the proverbial shit has hit the proverbial fan. The mainstream talking heads have lined up to cast aspersions on a fictionalized version of real events, chastising the publisher for daring to besmirch the honor of American troops by using real life enemies. While it's not clear where these same haters were when WWII games included Nazis or Japanese soldiers, we have once again seen the fickle and ignorant side of our 24-hour news cycle become infatuated with an industry that they pay no mind to in between manufactured controversies.
As if to throw more fuel on the flames, or perhaps to show that controversy won't stand in the way of quality product, EA has unveiled a new gameplay trailer for Medal of Honor that features an attack on an Afghan village that is practically crawling with Taliban rebels. It's not exactly the kind of video that was created to quell people's anger.
Apart from further pissing off the selectively pissed off talking heads, this video does go a long way to showing how much detail EA has put into the game. WIth almost three and a half minutes of uninterrupted gameplay, we get a good look at how the helicopter sections of the game will look and feel. The audio track in particular is what stands out to me in this video. It would appear as though this particular level may be on-rails, as a lot of the action and dialogue between gunships seems very much scripted out, with the only real interaction coming in the form of which weapons are fired and when. Still, it's impressive enough footage. Since any mention of the Taliban is enough to get the hairs to stand up on the back of any news producer, I would guess you'll be seeing this footage with some kind of text underneath like, "GAMES TRAINING TERRORISTS?".
