Mirror's Edge Faith City Trailer

"They chose a comfortable life. I chose differently."

by Sean

Ever since I first saw it in those Volkswagon commercials a few years back, I have been in love with the idea of "free-running". For those of you who don't know what it is, pick up a copy of Casino Royale, Daniel Craig's first foray into the role of James Bond, and watch the opening chase sequence. For those of you out there who do know free running, you should also already be aware of Mirror's Edge, EA's upcoming first-person free-running action experience.

Today we got a new look at the world of Mirror's Edge, courtesy of a teaser-trailer entitled "Faith City". Instead of showing us new Unreal-powered gameplay footage, this trailer instead is completely animated, and gives some background on the lead character of Faith and the city she inhabits.

Check it out:

Not that I'm not totally psyched for Mirror's Edge, but I am wondering how close we are to our saturation point on dystopian-future-with-oppressive-regime games. Half Life 2 did it so well, and so did Fallout. Although I suppose if the choice is between this theme and World War II, I'll go dystopia.

Mirror's Edge is scheduled for a November 11th US release.

Personally, I can't get enough dystopian, totalitarian themes. It's definitely my bread and butter.

I thought Parkour is like free running but shirtless.

David Belle came up with the word Parkour for the act of free flow urban movement. The difference is free running relies less on the efficiency of movement and more on freedom of movement. Free Running can be seen as the more flashy flips and tricks.
