Missing Marine Found Dead

Tragic End to Tangentially Game-Related Episode

by Sean

In early February, I told the very sad story of Eric Hall. If you don't remember, Eric was a 24-year old ex-Marine and Iraq veteran who had an incident of post-traumatic stress disorder while playing a game of Call of Duty 4 at a friend's house. Eric left the house, got on his motorcycle and rode off. The motorcycle was later found running on the side of a road and Eric had not been seen since.

On Wednesday, a Vietnam veteran by the name of Charles Shaughnessy found the body of Eric Hall in a culvert. It appears that Eric may have been taking shelter in the drain-pipe to escape from a small brush fire, and died from smoke inhalation.

I don't really have a whole lot to add to this obviously tragic story. All of Gamervision's thoughts and prayers go out to Eric's family, friends, loved ones, and anyone else touched by this horrible story.

The Hall family is hoping to use the media attention from this story to raise awareness of the horrors of post-traumatic stress disorder. If you would like to know more about this afflicition that has the possibility to affect thousands of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans, click here to read the National Institute of Mental Health's PTSD guidelines.
