Robert Bowling is a creative strategist at Modern Warfare 2 developer Infinity Ward who also happens to have a twitter account. In the not too distant past, he updated his account with a new background image, which you can see above (click it for fullsize). On the far left side of the image you can clearly see the numbers "10.04.09". Now, everyone knows that MW2 has a well established release date of 11.10.09, so people got to some head-scratching about what could be happening on the 4th, now known as "two days from now". But that mystery didn't last for too long, as this recent tweet has revealed the truth:

"Just reviewed the final cut, this is the one I've been waiting for! All new Modern Warfare 2 trailer hits online Sunday, OCT 4th!"

So one would have to believe that the new trailer will have something to do with a soldier and a flare (as seen in the image). MTV's Multiplayer blog asked Bowling if he could confirm that the soldier seen in the image will in fact feature in the new trailer, to which he gave this not-so-cryptic response:

"It’s foreshadowing the launch of the Oct. 4th trailer. The rest will light up once the trailer hits."

Oh, I see what you did there. Light up. Like, as in the way that a flare lights up. Like, as in the flare and the soldier will be in this new trailer which will premeire on Sunday. This might be a record for the shortest life of a internet mystery/rumor. Damn you Infinity Ward for being so forthcoming with new information! Why can't you be more like every other game developer on Earth and give us something to speculate about?
