In yet another sign that "hardcore" does not nearly mean what it once did, Activision has announced today that heavy metal legend Lemmy Kilmister will be a playable character in the upcoming Guitar Hero: Metallica. For those not in the know, Lemmy is the lead singer/bass player for the nearly-as-old-as-the-hills British metal trio Motörhead.
As any of their rabid fans can tell you, Metallica has long been fans of Lemmy's music, having performed seven Motörhead songs under the band name "The Lemmys". So, according to Activision, this on-stage marriage is really just Lemmy taking "his rightful place".
For his own purposes, Lemmy, a man as famous for what (and who) he does off-stage as much as for what he does on, was enthusiastic about the idea, "It's great to be in Guitar Hero with all these famous people and I'm really pleased to be in it with Metallica...but James [Hetfield] is still taller than me."
