Namco Bandai Unveils Tekken 6 Arcade Stick Edition

Also Detail Second Collectors Edition

by Sean

For fans of the Tekken series who, like myself, fell in love with the games in their upright arcade cabinet form, Namco Bandai has announced that there will be a special edition of the next installment called "The Tekken 6 Arcade Stick Edition". This version will ship with Tekken 6, as well as a wireless arcade stick controller. The controllers, seen above for the PlayStation 3 and below for the Xbox 360, feature some of the game's artwork and a convenient eight-button configuration, with the Xbox or PlayStation button placed top-center. This edition will also include a 100-page heavyweight art book, containing "a wealth of images chronicling the story, characters and the game’s development".

There will also be a second special edition, called "The Tekken 6 Collectors Edition", which will come with the game, the art book, and exclusive poster, and a limited edition Tekken 6 hooded sweatshirt, featuring different designs for the 360 and PS3 versions.

The press release did not give a price point for either of the editions, but a quick search on amazon revealed that the Arcade Stick Edition will retail for $149.99. That site is not listing the Collectors Edition, but my guess would be that it's going to cost less than the Arcade Stick version.

While $150 isn't exactly chump change, this pricing doesn't seem nearly as egregious as the price points for other games, namely Tony Hawk Ride or D.J. Hero. At least with Tekken 6 you're not required to buy the peripheral in order to play the game. Still though, even as a pretty big Tekken fan, I'm not sure I'm going to fork over that much money for a controller. Am I alone?

I really wish that they'd start making sticks that'll work with both systems. Since both connect via USB, it wouldn't really be that bad right? For that price, I'd rather get the SF IV stick though.

I'm just upset they're 150 bucks!! that's an insane price for something that used to be a fairly inexpensive controller. I mean yeaaaah its wireless and I would LOVE to have one for Street Fighter IV, but there's just so much more you can do with 150$. /frown
