The PlayStation has been having a hell of a month. With Yakuza 3, God of War III, and the world's only one-disc Final Fantasy XIII port, everything seems to be coming up Sony. And for fans of point-and-click adventures, tonight comes some of the best news to come along in a long time. Telltale Games has announced that for the first time in the long history of Sam & Max games, the newest title of the franchise will be launching on the PlayStation Network. While other Telltale releases have opened up on WiiWare, XBLA, and (of course) PC, this marks the first time that the publisher will debut on PS3.

The new game will be called Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse, and will encompass five episodes. Gamers who pre-order the game beginning on March 18th will be able to lock in a price of $29.99, which is down from the full price of $34.99.

Telltale describes the new adventure as follows:

In Sam & Max: The Devil’s Playhouse, Max has been bestowed with a set of powerful psychic abilities from an unusual ancient source that he’ll wield against the strongest and strangest foes the Freelance Police have ever faced. Join gaming’s greatest dog and rabbit sleuths as they investigate the source of these powers, with manic Max exercising new and amazing abilities with each episode. Max’s shape shifting, teleportation, mind reading and future sight abilities prove particularly useful as intergalactic simians, eldritch gods, under-dwellers and an arcane scholar ruthlessly hunt down those powers for their own evil ends.

Sam with psychic powers? New and amazing abilities? Shape shifting? All of it sounds like a plan to me! The first episode, entitled The Penal Zone, will hit the PSN next month on some unspecified date. Until then, you'll just have to tide yourself over with the following trailer for the game, which should serve to whet the appetite of any Twilight Zone fan. Does this mark the beginning of Telltale bringing its entire library of awesome adventures to PSN? Let's hope so!
