New Skate 2 Trailer Shows New Tricks

Finally You Can Get Off!

by Sean

Last year's EA-backed skateboard sim Skate is due to return in March with a sequel. The reception to the original was overwhelmingly postive, with most gamers agreeing that the world of Tony Hawk, although rich with nostalgia and memory, had become a bit too silly. There was still love for pulling a grind-manual-grind combo that could last for a good twenty minutes, but people seemed to like the change of pace that Skate represented.

However, the one of the biggest complaints about Skate, even from fans, was that the skater was locked onto the board. No crash was big enough, no cop was fast enough, and no speed was fast enough to get that plank out from under your feet. Maybe it's a nit-picking complaint, but for a game that strove to be as close to reality as possible, it was noticeable.

A new trailer out today, however, shows that getting off of the board will not only be available in Skate 2, it will be incredibly useful. Check it out:

I am now re-energized for this game. I have made no secret about the fact that the original Skate didn't exactly wow me, but some of this looks simply awesome. Personally, I'll be launching skateboards at the head of just about everyone.

This will be fun solely for all the awesome Jackass type moments that will be developed (mostly shooting your board at peoples' heads).

this looks significantly better than the first. I was so frustrated with the camera and controls that i forced myself to stop.
