Nice Package! - Killzone 2

Does the Manual Measure Up?

by Sean

Welcome to the first episode of Nice Package!, a new, semi-regular feature in which I will be taking a careful look at the various ways game companies package their games. Maybe it's just me, but I think that the box and instruction manual that come with a game should have as much time and thought put into them as the games themselves. I'll praise the companies that give us nice, thick, multi-color handbooks, and I'll chide the ones that give us two pages of black and white nothing.

For this initial installment, I open up Sony's newest shooter, Killzone 2. Will it provide be a monumental disappointment, or will it be a nice package?

good idea for a show but i will ask because i am curious what do you want in your booklet? To me button mapping, a recap of the story and instructions are all i need. Artwork is always a nice bonus.. just curious what makes a booklet badass for you.

@Voyou - if you can, get your hands on the manual for Street Fighter IV. To me, that's the best example from this generation. Lots of color, full character introductions, moves lists, all in all, just a very complete introduction to the game.

Yeah the SF4 manual is presented so well. I hate when I get a game and the manual is just a map of the controls. It gives me nothing to read on the toilet!!

Haha, the title made me giggle, but I like the concept. Not exactly something I would personally be looking for when I wanna find game info online but something that I will watch probably anyways.

I'm curious how the actual artwork on the disc was. There's nothing better than a cool game disc to go along with a cool game.

Does anyone else enjoy the smell of a new video game or movie purchase? Is it just me?

Also, just put $20 on this in a heart beat today when visiting my friend that works at Gamestop. He counted how many were in the box that held Killzone 2, which was 17 in total, and I immediately told him I'm reserving one of them. I'll get it on Friday after work.

    Good preview, Sean! Thanks!

Another surprisingly good instruction manual - X-Blades. Weird.

Love the feature, and I can't wait for the next big Collector's Edition release.
