NPD Numbers Reveal Top Five Games of First Half of 2009
Not Many Surprises Here
by Sean
Gamasutra has analyzed the NPD sales numbers for the first half of 2009 and have revealed the top five selling games for each current generation console. While, for the most part, there aren't a whole lot of surprises in the lists, there is at least one game that seems a bit out of place among the other AAA titles. Let's get to those lists first.
First up, the bestselling games for the Xbox 360:
1. Resident Evil 5
2. UFC 2009 Undisputed
3. Call of Duty: World at War
4. Halo Wars
5. Street Fighter 4
Now for the PlayStation 3:
1. Killzone 2
2. Resident Evil 5
3. Street Fighter 4
4. UFC 2009 Undisputed
5. MLB 09: The Show
And last, but certainly not least, the Wii:
1. Wii Fit
2. Wii Play
3. Mario Kart Wii
4. EA Sports Active
5. LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Bundle
Certain games on these lists should come as a shock to no one, as the companies that published them have made no secret about their success- namely Resident Evil 5, Street Fighter 4, Call of Duty: World at War, and every single game on the Wii list.
To me, the big shocker here is that UFC 2009 Undisputed was able to crack the top five for both of the HD consoles, even to go to number two on the 360. It's even more surprising to see UFC that high on the lists when you consider that it was only released in May, and therefore only had two months on shelves, while most of the other games have been out since at least February. It's no wonder that EA has suddenly gotten so interested in publishing an MMA game.

Wow, UFC is that high up? Pretty awesome, good work THQ.
I wonder where Killzone 2 would be in the overall list. When was EA Sports active released? That seems mighty fast. I wonder where that would be on the overall list as well.
Amazing how The Conduit didn't make it passed the massive (millions) of people that have the Wii. I mean; it's not every day when you get a real game on a console that sucks. Did I say that out loud?
