Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Trailer

Learn the History (and Future) of Skira Island

by Sean

Let's get this out of the way early: there is no such place as Skira Island. Although the video you're about to watch paints a rich history of the island, and the many battles fought over the right to claim ownership to it, it simply does not exist. For the FPS Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, Codemasters has co-opted the history of an island off the coast of Alaska called Kiska, changed the name, and given it a backstory.

Now that you have the necessary history lesson, on to the video. While the new trailer for Dragon Rising lacks any gameplay footage, or grammatical correctness (singular third person verbs get "s" on the end), it does set the scene for what gamers can expect when they start up the game. As an American marine called in by the Russians to defeat the Chinese, players will have to fight across Skira Island in the hopes of reclaiming it for the Russkies.

The game releases on October 6th, and Codemasters has promised a demo before it hits stores. In the meantime, tide yourself over with the trailer:
