Penny Arcade Goes to Rapture
Part Two of 2K's Ongoing Art Project
by Sean
Back in July we showed you "The Sisters", a piece of one-shot artwork from comic book iconoclast Jhonen Vasquez, which represented his own view of the world of Rapture. This was part of the Cult of Rapture's project to get well known artists to come up with a vision of Bioshock's dystopian world. The second in the series has been added to the cult, this time coming from Penny Arcade's Mike Krahulik (a.k.a. Gabe). It's called "Mr. Bubbles", and a cropped version of it appears above (click the image to see the whole piece).
Clearly Krahulik has a much rosier vision of Rapture than does Vasquez, which certainly speaks to each artist's individual style. Whereas Jhonen's art showed cracks, dripping water, and an ominous Big Daddy, Mike's is much brighter, with the Little Sister looking positively adorable, and a school of what can only be described as fishies swimming by in the background.
If you find yourself in Seattle for this year's PAX, make sure to stop by the Bioshock 2 booth to pick up a limited edition print of "Mr. Bubbles", and then spend the rest of the weekend trying to hunt down Mike to get him to autograph it for you. Additionally, Jhonen Vasquez will be at PAX, signing copies of "The Sisters" on Saturday the 5th from 2-4PM.
