It has long been a knock against film franchises that any translation from film to game has been, to be friendly, sub-par at best. Well, Peter Jackson's King Kong proves that not only is it possible for synergy to exist between video-game and film, but that ultimately, this synergy creates not only a better game, it can actually make the film a more complete and fulfilling experience in the end.

With dialogue and scenery from Peter Jackson's over-the-top blockbuster, you become either Jack Driscol in first-person-shooter mode, or you control over the shoulder of the great ape Kong. Levels alternate between Jack's attempts to stay alive and escape Skull Island and Kong's reign over the primordial swamp and later, rampaging through Manhattan. The controls are easy enough to learn quickly, but personally I feel the game would have benefitted from a help menu of some kind. The puzzles and monsters can be defeated without the aid of a guide, but it can be frustrating to spend half-an-hour chipping away at the hide of a V. Rex, only to die and have to start it all over again. The graphics for the XBox 360 version of the game are simply unbelievable and those for other systems are not bad but sadly the game is over all too quickly and levels do not offer much in the way of variety.
