Report: LucasArts Lays Off 30% of Its Staff

It's as if Several Voices Cried Out in Terror, and Were Suddenly Silenced

With The Force Unleashed II right around the corner, many Star Wars enthusiasts might have been wondering what would be next on the agenda for LucasArts. Well, according to a report from IndustryGamers, it looks like the next project may be filling out unemployment compensation forms.

LucasArts has confirmed that an undetermined number of in-house employees, most of whom were working on The Force Unleashed II or the still-unannounced, but apparently cancelled Force Unleashed III, have been let go today. A statement from LA explained the reason for the cuts, saying:

"LucasArts is reorganizing its teams to better address the needs of the internal studio. Unfortunately, this means adjusting staffing. LucasArts continues to be committed to creating a first-class internal studio - and to fostering relationships with trusted external partners - in order to deliver quality games that amaze and inspire fans."

While the future is up in the air for other LucasArts projects, the fact is that news like this is never a good thing. Hopefully the laid off staff members will land on their feet, and LucasArts will be able to keep their promise of continuing to deliver quality to games.
