Resident Evil 4 (Nintendo GameCube)

Gore on Nintendo? Go on!

by Sean

The conventional wisdom about Nintendo, beginning with NES and continuing to the GameCube, has been that there simply aren't enough games. More specifically there has never been enough third-party support for games that grown-up gamers actually want to play. Mario, Animal Crossing, and Zelda are all great, fun, classic games, but in a world dominated by Grand Theft Auto and Halo clones, there just doesn't seem to be much room in Nintendo's world for games that may hook in older and more experienced gamers. Well apparently the developers over at Capcom never got the memo from conventional wisdom, as proven by "Resident Evil 4." A beautifully rendered over-the-shoulder shooter, "Resident Evil 4" is an amazing, grown-up game that is easy enough to finish without having to buy a strategy guide or walk-through, but challenging enough to keep gamers busy for days at a time. The "Resident Evil" franchise has long been known by fans and detractors alike as a gore-splattered, zombie-filled, shoot-em-up, so it should come as little surprise that the fourth installment continues this grand tradition. You are Leon S. Kennedy. It has been six years since his first run-in with Umbrella Corporation and the monstrosities they let loose in Raccoon City. This time around, the president's daughter has been kidnapped and Leon is called upon to go rescue her. What he discovers in the village where she was last seen will completely change his world, and his ablilty to defeat the evil he finds will determine the fate of the entire world. With an easy to learn control system and fully interactive backgrounds and environments, "Resident Evil 4" is sure to provide countless hours of play. One of the greatest features of this game is the seemingly infinite number of times it can be replayed. Once you complete the game, you start over again from the beginning, but you get to keep all of the equipment you collected on your first time around. Sure to be a classic for the GameCube
