Revenge of the Wounded Dragons Coming to PlayStation Network

Get Ready for Some Old School Side Scrolling Kung-Fu Action

by Sean

Sony has sent word from high atop the mountain (note: I'm not sure there actually is a mountain) to let us all know that beginning tomorrow, interested PS3 owners will be able to download Revenge of the Wounded Dragons from the PlayStation Store. The game will feature a side-scrolling gameplay mechanic, as players get to use a variety of kung-fu fight techniques in order to avenge the death of the protagonist's grandfather and rescue his sister. The world will be filled with objects and weapons that players will be able to pick up, to go along with the punches and kicks, all useful in order to defeat the requisite waves of enemies.

There's even a video to whet your appetite:

Among the features that Sony Online Entertainment is highlighting are:

  • Single player story mode includes four chapters (Village, Forest, Red District, Monastery) with six adventure areas in each chapter
  • Unique boss fights at the end of every level
  • Four minigame levels with additional unlockable levels (Lanterns,Labyrinth, Chicken Hunt, and PvP)
  • 2 unique PlayStation®Network trophies
  • Animated comic storytelling between levels
  • Leaderboard updates
  • Ability to personalize soundtracks and relive the game by taking screens through the XMB

From the looks of the screenshots and the trailer, the game looks to be reminiscent of Bad Dudes or Double Dragon. The backgrounds and character models certainly look more evolved than those classics, but the core mechanic and gameplay seem pretty similar. So for fans of the genre (and, yes, I include myself among their ranks) who are looking for a quick way to get rid of ten bucks, tomorrow night is your chance.
